Westhaven Success Academy

Salutes Star Students

Westhaven Success Academy congratulated twelve students for outstanding behavior on Friday, December 2, 2011.  The hallway was decorated like a restaurant with placemats and balloons for the McDonald's hotcake and sausage breakfast.  For lunch, the students had a choice of cheese, pepperoni, or sausage pizza from Little Caesars.  A few parents came and joined in when the students walked the red carpet to receive their goodie bags and certificates.  The faculty and staff of Westhaven celebrated these students all day.

Friday, October 29, 2011 was a very busy day for the students and staff of Southeast Success Academy.  Students and staff participated in a Breast Cancer walk over to Newberry Elementary School, where the students distributed treat bags to the kindergarten and 1st grade students. Southeast Success Academy also supported Team Innovators by donating $100 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. After completing the Breast Cancer Walk, we then had our second twenty day Fight Free Celebration in conjunction with our Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Celebration. NWPA Visits Belz’s Museum of Asian and Judaic Art

Mrs. Myrna Gammon's World History class visited the Belz's Museum of Asian and Judaic Art.  The group continued their multicultural experience with lunch at Wang's Bistro. When asked to review the fieldtrip, the students had the following statements:

Miss Maya Swift reported that her favorite part of the tour was viewing the ivory pagoda. The pagoda was a school with many levels of rooms with each floor representing a higher level of learning. Ms. Swift also stated that she wanted to return to the museum and view more works of art.

Mr. Lawrence James stated that he enjoyed the museum and seeing sculptures made of jade and ivory, but his favorite part was eating sweet’n’sour chicken at Wang’s for lunch.

Mr. Jay Dodson said that he thought the entire trip was fun, and he enjoyed learning about the various Chinese dynasties and sampling the vast array of food available on the buffet.

All of the students and the chaperones agreed that the trip was a success, and they are eager to explore more educational learning opportunities available in Memphis.

Earning the title of "Student of the Month" is motivating our scholars to achieve academic success and make positive changes in their behavior.
